Summer Decorations
Along with Holidays, Seasons are a good time to bring new decorations and colors into yout home. Transitioning from Winter/ Spring to Summer should bring major changes to a home with colors, accesories, decorations, etc. For the summer it's always a good idea to bring in lighter colors and decorations. It is also a good time to remove things like winter rugs to replace with lighter airy ones and replace darker colored candles, towels, etc. with lighter happier tones. Summer is also a good time to bring in new scents for soaps and air fresheners for an outdoor feel. Here are some examples of summer decorating

Easter Decorations
Along with Christmas and Halloween Easter is a major Holiday for house decorations that again can be easily handmade or bought at just about every store throughout April. I personally love Easter decorations because of the pastel colors and designs. Easter is probably the Holiday with the most handmade decorations over Christmas and Halloween because of egg decorating and such. Easter decorations can make an environment feel fun and young for homes as well as businesses and stores which is why it is always a fun and easy way to make your home brighter for the Holiday.

Christmas Decorations
Along with Halloween, Christmas is a Holiday that can bring life to a home or space. There are obviously a lot more decorations for Christmas than for Halloween, and almost everyone decorates for this Holiday. I love the website pinterest.com so I found some decorations on there that I thought were cute. Christmas decorations always make a home or space feel festive and exciting, which is always good as company usually comes during this time. Changing decorations for different seasons or holidays is a good way to bring new light into spaces. Here are some cute Christmas decorations I found.

Halloween Decorations

Interior design is obviously mainly focused on room designs and colors to match furnitures ect, but it is also about decorating. Halloween has always been one of my favorite Holidays, and it is defintely the Holiday with the cutest decorations. Decorating for different Holidays and Seasons is a good way to keep a house warm and inviting. Some of these decorations can easily be made at home, and others are sold in stores.

Items to bring life to a room

It's pretty often to see rooms that have nice furniture or paint jobs in them, but they're still really bland and boring. There are a ton of items that can be brought into a space to catch attention, add color, bring life, add spice or mix up. Sometimes these items are large and powerful, and other times they can be small but lively. Many of the items can be easily made, and others can be really expensive. Here are some examples:

New Trends for Living rooms

One of the biggest trends right now is a white couch or chair with bright tomato red pillows or accents. The bright color on a light surface draws attention and captures the eye.


Another trend is to have different shaped furniture, for example U or L shaped couches or whimsical looking chairs. This style is really modern and catchy.



I personally like both of these styles, and think that they can make a room look a lot better. There are also many other trends for living rooms including multipurpose furniture, wall covering entertainment systems, nuetral colors mixed with a bold/bright color, etc.

New trends for bedrooms

One main idea thats trending is the bohemian style bedding or pattern for curtains and furniture. Bohemian bedding is seen as wild patterns with colors that don't usually go together.


Another trend for bedrooms is an elegant vintage kind of look with lots of different lighting fixtures, barnwood flooring, and floral patterns. This look is one of the harder trends to achieve.



One last bedroom trend is long drapes with fun patterns and colors. Many bedrooms are now including ceiling to floor length double sided curtains which are usually left open, and are just placed for looks.

Top 2012 Color Trends
Every year new color trends rise and old color trends die. From strong reds and purples, to soft greens and blues, and bold navy and gray are the top used colors throughout interior spaces so far for 2012. These selected colors will be the influencing factors in products we buy next year including paint, wall coverings, furnishings window treatments, and design in general. A main color for kitchens that is trending is a soft green, for bedrooms it is a tealish color with bold grey accenting, and for living spaces soft white furnishings with bold red accents.

Texture
There are two main types of texture that can be applied in interior design.

Tactile texture: The actual 3-D feel of a surface that can be touched. Painters can use impasto to build peaks and create texture.

Visual texture: The illusion of a 3-D texture. Cannot actually feel the texture.

Texture can help create different moods and looks throughout a space. For example, rough tactile texture can create a rugged or rustic feel while smooth tactile texture can create a soft subtle feeling throughout a space. Visual texture can create these same feelings while only being an illusion. While texture is most commonly used on the outside features of housing, it is also common to see it used in bathrooms, kitchens, and living rooms as well. There are many different techniques/ ways to create these different types of textures.

Lighting
Lighting is one of the most important features within an indoor space. Lighting can help draw attention to a certain area or object, brighten or die down a room, and help mkae certain tasks easier. The main types of lighting include ambient, task, and accent lighting.

Ambient-
provides an area with illumination. Also known as general lighting, it radiates an even level of brightness without glare. Having a central source of ambient light in all rooms is fundamental to a good lighting plan.
How to be accomplished-
Chandeliers, ceiling or wall-mounted fixtures, recessed or track lights.
Task-
For specific tasks- reading,  preparing and cooking food, doing homework, working on hobbies, or playing games.Task lighting shouldn't have any distracting glare or shadows.
How to accomplish-
Recessed and track lighting, pendant lighting and undercabinet lighting, as well as by desk lamps.

Accent-
Adds drama to a room by creating visual interest.  Can be used to draw attention to houseplants, paintings, sculptures and others. It can also be used to highlight the texture of a brick or stone wall, or window treatments. Requires at least three times as much light on the main focal point as the general lighting surrounding it.
How to accomplish-
Recessed and track lighting or wall-mounted picture lights.
